SimpleSi Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 In 3 of my schools plus 2 others that aren't mine, espresso has stopped working - just comes up with ablank page if using IE6. (I expect all of my NED schools to have the problem - I just haven't had fault reports from them yet) IE7 and firefox3 machines work OK. I suspect that something happened with last wed's espresso content update. If anyone else is experiencing this problem - please contact our "friends" at Westfield as they just seem to put it down to my incompetance at configuring my networks/computers as no-one else has reported it Their attitude is that anyone not running IE7 is a moron and should be publicly executed. I only reserve that judgment for people running IE4 or less (unless they're running Win3.11 and then I think - fair enough ) regards Simon
conehead Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Does this bring up the index page as a workaround? \\cachepilot\website\~espresso\modules\index.html
SimpleSi Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Does this bring up the index page as a workaround? \\cachepilot\website\~espresso\modules\index.html I normally access it using http://10.12.34.250/~espresso/modules/index.html are you suggesting using \\10.12.34.250\~espresso\Modules.index.html ? regards Simon (At home now so can't test until tomorrow) A bit of background - with old centerprise cachepilots my shortcut used to be http://cachepilot/~espresso/... but that didn't work when the NEDs came along and I had to resort to using the ip address instead - and now 2 weeks later that doesn't work - except on one machine where http://cachepilot/... now seems to work again But since all these faults have appeared since last wednesday and Wed night is when espresso update the content....
conehead Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) Just as it's written with the \website\ directory included Si. Using the ip instead of cachepilot works too. Edited November 18, 2008 by conehead
SimpleSi Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) @conehead That doesn't work at all Just gives "windows cannot find \\cachepilot\website\~espresso\modules\index.html ....." error msg Same if I enter the ip address instead of word cachepilot This is very strange problem very much compounded by Westfield's attitude of "just upgrade to IE7" instead of looking into why every primary school in the county (based on a sample of 100% out of 8 schools - 2 of which aren't mine) with a NED using IE6 has stopped working around last Thursday My workaround yesterday was to install a copy of portable firefox on my server and then run the flash plugin for firefox and add a shortcut to it on each desktop (considerably quicker than ordering an extra 512MB ram, installing XP SP2 and then installing IE7) Just going to try to replicate that solution at this school regards Simon PS - at this school 2 out of the 3 KS1 computers (which are main espresso users) - the old http://cachepilot/... shortcut works but using http://10.x.y.250... doesn't Edited November 19, 2008 by SimpleSi
SimpleSi Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Westfield have agreed to escalate the issue to LUNS as they've conceded that using IE6 is not a capital offence 2 days wasted but its better late than never regards Simon
SimpleSi Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 UPDATE FROM WESTFIELD Espresso have admitted that they are updating the NED boxes differently from the old cachepilots and that explains why they went wrong at the end of last week - it was 12th nov update that caused the problem. LUNS are talking to Espresso about it. My workaround only works for 1 computer at a time as the standard firefox portable program won't run from a network location on 2 computers at the same time I'm going to open another thread to see if anyone has a solution to network installing firefox regards Simon
Chrisk Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I have been informed that a patch will be applied tonight to fix this problem.
SimpleSi Posted November 21, 2008 Author Posted November 21, 2008 And JFFI (sent to me by one of heads) Notice of Fix to CLEO Network Edge Servers/Espresso Service Affecting: Schools using the New CLEO NED box with Espresso and Internet Explorer 6 Date: 21 November 2008 (This evening) Reason: Since the release of a Swedish Espresso service the CLEO NEDS have experienced some incompatibilities with foreign language letters. ONLY schools using Internet Explorer Version 6 are affected by this problem. This unfortunately means that Espresso has stopped working in these schools. Fix: In order to resolve the problem CLEO will be issuing a small fix tonight (Friday 21st November 2008) using our remote management system. This should resolve the issue for affected schools. No action will be required by individual schools. Risk Level of Impact on End-Users: Low CLEO do not anticipate any problems with the application of this minor fix this evening, however if your school experiences any problems with the service next week please report these to your usual CLEO support and fault reporting service: Regards CLEO Project Office So it's Sweden's fault regards Simon
