Anyone know if the 10 user limit affects connections to xampp running on windows XP. my tech PC is hosting a temporary website that is going to get hit hard tomorrow by kids and staff, I'm just wondering if its worth putting it on a 2003 server (that I will have to build quickly) or if my tech PC will cope (dual core 2 gigs of ram win XP).

The ten user limit is only in effect for the microsoft file and printer shareing protocols. IIS (internet and information services) and any other protocols that are implemented differently are not limited under XP.

if your serving a website through apache in xammp or through IIS in XP then as stated the 10 user limit doesn't come into play

I can confirm that, i have done it myself.

I have also applied the registry hack a long time ago and it messed my machine up good.

I would advice you to get an old machine and install lots of ram and install a lamp verion of linux something like ubuntu. Its free and just works.
