Hello All,

I have posted this before and have made progress.  However, I still do not see what I expect in that my Guest device is connected but I have no internet connection.

Setup as follows.

  • DHCP Server scope providing IP addresses (Windows Server)
  • SmoothWall VM
  • SmoothWall to act as PNI
  • Internet access via SonicWall

On the SmoothWall VM

  • Bridge Interface ( No IP assigned) with no interfaces added
  • Guest NIC added tagged with VLAN 100

In the SmoothWall Web GUI

  • Interface added as VLAN and linked to Guest Interface (I believe this is correct)?
  • IP configured on the VLAN interface is the Gateway of the DHCP Server scope
  • Gateway for the VLAN interface is the IP of the Guest subnet on the SonicWall

Example

DHCP Gateway is 10.10.10.100

Next hop to SmoothWall VLAN interface

  • IP is 10.10.10.100
  • 255.255.254.0
  • Gateway is 10.10.10.200 - IP of Guest subnet on SonicWall

Last hop to SonicWall

  • IP is 10.10.10.200
  • 255.255.254.0
  • No Gateway

I can see the under Dashboard > External connections > Guest VLAN 100 1 of 1 gateways available and is green.

I can connect to the Guest WIFI network and have an IP in the Guest WIFI range.  I can ping the IP of the Guest Subnet on the SonicWall - 10.10.10.200

I cannot ping the VLAN Interface IP on the SmoothWall - 10.10.10.100

I don't have internet access and I can't figure out why.

Do I need to connect the VLAN interface on the SmoothWall to an Internal/External interface?  If yes, how is this done as I cannot see a way to do this.

Is there anything else I have missed on this?

Any help/pointers gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks,

Forgive me as I haven't touched a Smoothwall in years and even then, it was light.

Are you just sending items to the Smoothwall for filtering and giving that as the gateway for clients? VLAN100 should be tagged for it to pass to the Smoothwall if so, but this all sounds odd to me.

Your next hop is in the same subnet, so just changing gateway could bypass no? I would probably set it up differently but I really am struggling to draw this out on paper, presumably due to my lack of SW knowledge.

How does the sonicwall connect to the smoothwall, 1 physical port with a trunk loaded with vlans?

I feel it could be simplified but like I say, struggling to work out the actual topology.

Hi, I'll PM the topology to you tomorrow if that is OK?

Thanks.

Hello All,

Apologies for my opening post - I have my IP's mixed up.  Please see updated IP's below.

Example

DHCP Gateway is 10.10.10.100

Next hop to SmoothWall VLAN interface

  • IP is 10.10.10.100
  • 255.255.254.0
  • Gateway is 10.20.10.200 - IP of Guest subnet on SonicWall

Last hop to SonicWall

  • IP is 10.20.10.200
  • 255.255.254.0
  • No Gateway

I can see the under Dashboard > External connections > Guest VLAN 100 1 of 1 gateways available and is green.

I cannot ping the VLAN Interface IP on the SmoothWall - 10.10.10.100

Thanks,
