Staff governor position has come up for grabs at the school and I was wondering, would you run for the position as a data manager? Is it a conflict of interest for someone with a high level of access to the school's sensitive data and responsibility to generate the school's KPI's to be on the governing body?

I can't see how it would be conflict of interest TBH - at the end of the day, as the DM you simply produce data based on the facts - if you twist those facts to your own gain then yes, of course that's wrong, but that would be true of any job.

There's no reason you can't be a DM and Governor as far as I can see :)

Not the same thing - but when I went to apply to be a governor at my kids' school, I had the same concern - my Head saw no problem with it - and indeed would like me at the governor meetings for our school, but the other school's head said it would be a conflict of interest for me to sit in their meetings while working on data at my school.

I withdrew my application then.
