Printers defaulting to letter paper

I have installed Samba, Cups etc using the wiki and Ric_'s guide. We aren't going to use print auditing yet so I'll be installing PyKota at a later date. Everything is working great except that printers are insisting on printing in letter format. After searching these forums I double checked the printer queue is set to A4 at the server and set the printer itself to use A4 but it still insists on using letter. The machines are XP SP2 clients and the server is Ubuntu 8.04 with cups 1.3.7.

 

Can anyone help? TIA

This is not limited to Linux as a print server. Print queues on our Windows 2003 print server 'set themselves' to print on letter periodically. I have to change the queues every so often. Still haven't found what causes the change.

Yeh I found that with the server we're replacing which is/was 2003 but the queue is set to A4 on Linux but still letter on the XP clients. I've tested it on clean clients with the same results

1. Browse the print server print shares from an XP machine.

2. Right click on each printer queue and go to properties.

3. In the advanced tab press the 'Printing Defaults' button.

4. Ensure that the printer setting in the various dialog boxes you can access are correct.

 

Any clients that installed the printer prior to making changes there will need to be told to delete/readd the network printer queue to pick up the new settings. Also be aware, users can override certain settings themselves.
