mdrabble Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I have a bit of a strange issue and I'm struggling to diagnose what the cause is and why it is happening. When a user logs on - it can be pot luck if it all works correctly first time. Randomly shortly after logon either Explorer.exe, Any Office 365 app, Edge, Chrome will freeze and give an Application Hang error in Event Viewer - nothing else jumps out and screams this is the issue. Task manager is showing nothing out of the ordinary (from what I can see and tell) If the computer is rebooted a few times it appears to them work normally. No major changes have taken place (other than usual MS/Office updates) This is happening on a both Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices. on devices that have had Windows running for 2 years or newly imaged PCs. Devices are i5, 9th Gen, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD - have plenty of free disk space Anyone come across anything like this? Cheers
mdrabble Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 Sent a quick MS Forms out to staff to try and gather some info and I think I may have found the pattern. We are slowly migrating users from On Prem to O365. All the users who are reporting issues are all On Prem users - so either issue with the VM holding the Home Drives or possible issue with the Host.
k-strider Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 the other week we had a faulty dram module in the file server made it really slow (login took hours) worked it out adventually by loging in to its BMC seing all the ECC errors but this is how we first realised slow and unresponsive clients... and it was only some clients because of DFS some clients were attached to this file server and others the other...
