talksr Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 (edited) Has anyone else come back to this after the holidays? We have a CHRGTUC-CB-32-C Chromebook charging station. I bought it in September 2021 so the two year electrical warranty is over for this. It has 10 charging units with 5 ports on each. Several staff reported this week that the Chromebooks are not all charging. I opened the front and it doesn't look good. One of the charging units has clearly blown but from a port that didn't even have a cable in it which is odd. The charge units are LS-G150-UC5. Out of the 10 charging units, one is totally blown (in the photo) but another four are now not charging on all ports, some ports are just totally dead (I have tried different cables/devices). Never had this happen before. All I can see that has been done is the trolley has been PAT tested over the summer holidays. This trolley is permanently kept in my server room which is constantly at 20 degrees so it can't be a summer heat related issue. Edited September 6, 2024 by talksr
synaesthesia Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 That would be more than enough to warrant taking any remaining stations out of service immediately. I would still contact Zioxi as that looks very bad on them, and you may be able to tug on their heart strings. Poor school, imagine the fire damage etc etc. 1

Also contacted our supplier to find out the cost of replacement charging units. Never ever had this happen and like you, was quite concerned we could have had a fire. Let's see what they come back with.
synaesthesia Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 If you need to get the point across or they get a bit snarky, mention how bad it looks if someone searches Zioxi and it comes up with some public images of their products burned out
Aprice Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I'd immediately disuse all of the others, it's clearly a design defect. If I was Zioxi I'd want the unit back to know what exactly went wrong with it. I made a point not long ago of not charging devices and ideally not storing stacks of lithium batteries in the server room.
talksr Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 Thanks for your posts everyone. Thankfully, we only have the one trolley but I immediately disconnected it once I had seen what had happened. I then plugged in each non-visually burned unit and that is how I ascertained that several ports on other units are not charging. I have contacted Zioxi and they have asked for more details so I sent over the photos and explained what had happened. Hopefully they will be able to help. Maybe I should relocate a trolley in future, but I have always kept it locked in the server room as we have three CCTV cameras here and constant 20 degree temperatures. When I have had trolleys in other rooms, things go missing, cables get damaged whereas in the server room, this trolley has always been treated with respect as staff know they are on CCTV!
talksr Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 A quick update... Zioxi got straight back to me and they are sending an engineer on Monday to take a look. Very fast response time
talksr Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 Update... A Zioxi engineer arrived promptly this morning and removed all of the charger units in the trolley and replaced for free with newer more powerful ones. He has taken away the problem ones so they can be looked at as this isn't something that is meant to happen. 10/10 for Zioxi after-sales care. I only contacted them late in the morning on Friday and first thing the following Monday and we are all sorted. Couldn't have asked for better. 4
synaesthesia Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 You can't ask for much more than that, fair play to them! 1
talksr Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 You can't ask for much more than that, fair play to them! A very quick resolution, hopefully this was a one off. The engineer said they have not seen that happen before so maybe we were just unlucky. I am very pleased with how fast it was dealt with.
