We will be migrating to Arbor in the summer. What software / interfaces do people use for ID cards (e.g. bulk printing of ID cards with photos)?

Currently, my school uses SIMS and there is a process that reads data from SIMS (SQL query) and writes to a seperate SQL database. This data includes the photo.

Then we use eMedia CS2 which points to the seperate SQL database to search for individuals, or year etc. Then ID cards can be printed individually or in bulk.

We use salamander and net2. I'm not sure if you need the pro version, I think you still get the card designer with the lite version. The pro version isn't hugely expensive if you do need it

I think others on here have used mail merges in the past with sims. There is a label printer option in arbor, but I'm not sure if that's quite suitable for cards.

Hi Chris,

That's interesting as we use salamander and Net2 also. Does salamander provide data for Net2? What about photos?

that's the same setup we use - salamander can link to your net2 and everything you need can come across.

It's made badge creation super easy.

We've even had them add the number plates for our ANPR system now.

Hi Bob,

And that is taking data from Arbor?

Yes, its all pulled across from Arbor (I assume the ANPR is as well). We've even pulled in the card IDs from Live register / Papercut via AD.

Thanks, this is looking like a solution to move to. I assume Net2 has a bulk print option (e.g. by class/year group etc) which is dependant on how data is imported? I am googling but not found that confirmation yet.

If you right click on the user groups/departments, there is a print group option. They seem to come out in a random order when I do it, but still better than printing 1 by 1.

You can also set the card template and access level using the right click menu on groups.

Congrats on the move to Arbor! We used to be on SIMS too, and eMedia CS2 was our go-to for ID card printing. Since you're familiar with SQL queries, you can probably set up something similar with Arbor. Look into Arbor's APIs for integration and maybe tweak your SQL queries a bit. Stick with eMedia CS2 if it's been working well for you.

So you use Arbor API to populate a local SQL database?

At the moment, we are looking at automating into Net2 as the simplest solution.
