We're looking at a laptop lifecycle policy from scratch, i.e. What's actually best value, rather than what's the absolute cheapest way to do it. This will take into account working time lost through device failure and help desk time spent on unreliable devices and potentially resale value.

The organisation generally prefers op ex to cap ex, so it's probably a purchasing based approach. The starting point is that we have a lead supplier we're happy with, so it's likely to be based on Dell Latitude 5000 series with i5, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. We're currently buying with a five year warranty, so the main options I'm considering are:

Run for three years and then sell

Run for five years and then sell

Is anyone else doing similar? Can anyone give an idea of what value we might recover by selling that type of device at that kind of age?

DMs welcome if you can't share this information publicly.

Many thanks
