Jobos Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I’ve discovered that the schools firewall has port 8530 open . As many will know this port is for client access to the WSUS server. I don’t know why or for how long 8530 has been open but it is and I can access WSUS from home using http://:8530/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx This could be useful as it allows staff laptops to get updates without being brought into school but it’s also a security issue so should I contact Synetrix and get said port closed?
GrumbleDook Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 If you are happy to use it as a service then I would not worry about it. I would just make sure that the machine hosting WSUS is suitably hardened and not available on other ports. 1
