Wanted to post this in Smoothwall Direct Support but don't seem to have the rights to create a new thread in there?

We have a member of staff who is asking about how Smoothwall identifies AI Tools as we have the Category blocked for both Staff and Students. They have noticed that some educational AI tools are allowed through such as https://curipod.com/ai

I informed them that it's a complicated process and directed them to have a read of this. Not content with this they have come back to me asking the question below:-

I guess my question, which may be for the suppliers, is how does smoothwall differentiate between allowed AI content and blocked. They would contain a lot of similarities. Are the education AIs on an approved list to allow access?

Just trying to establish if there is a chance of students gaining access to an AI we don't want them to.

Can anyone answer this in simple terms?

I think you need to turn that back around; that isn't something that should perhaps be blocked, but learned and integrated.

Not my choice to make I'm afraid. Over ruled when I aproached the subject.

I expect the differentiation will mainly be done based on the domain that hosts the material. AI material hosted on domains included in the 'Education and reference' or 'Academic institutions' categories are allowed as those categories normally allowed in our initial template and would host materiel designed for education, for example.
