Monitoring BYOD network

We have a school-wide BYOD network with Smoothwall filtering, and would like to add some monitoring. We've decided against Smoothwall's Managed Monitor as it watches 24/7 and we don't want to do that, especially on personally-owned laptops. What other products are people using for this? The devices are BYOD, so ideally the solution would be upstream so students can't disable it. If this came with live classroom management features (along the lines of AB Tutor or NetSupport School), that would be a bonus.

Smoothwall monitor needs to be installed on the device so for BYOD it probably is not a good idea generally. The safeguard reports from a Smoothwall could help but currently it's not possible to turn it off for specific times a day.
