OUTLOOK basic auth?

A few of us use Outlook (the actual locally installed Office application) to manage emails as we have multiple email accounts to deal with.

 

Some of these accounts are from our 'main' email address provider and is from a 3rd party, although it uses O365 (some have 'O365 A1 Plus for students' and some 'Exchange online plan 1 for students' licenses)...

 

The other account is from LGfL and I'm not sure what they use as a back-end, but it pops up what I can only guess is still a basic auth box, for email address and password and works fine.

 

The 3rd party ones use some sort of front-end so when it needs a password a big box (browser ?) with the front end and 3rd party supplier logo and a 'log-in with' link appears which I click but then although the box changes to what should have a log-in section, there is no log in section... It says 'a new window will appear if you are not already logged in' but nothing happens...

 

It's driving me mad because I don't even know where to start troubleshooting! Is it a Back-end (O365) setting, Front-end (3rd party interface) or a setting in Outlook using a browser for the auth page that I don't know how to change!!!

 

Also, this only happens for one of the multiple accounts as it seems Office has somehow kept all the other accounts auth/credentials (although I can't find them stored anywhere in credentials manager - maybe registry?)...

From your description it's either a federated login (like ADFS or ping) or it's using native microsoft managed auth but I cannot tell which

 

I would be tempted to ensure you have a machine with no IE zones configured (yes I know IE is dead) and no-one has put reg keys in to disable modern auth in outlook.

 

Also access the problematic mailbox through webmail in a private browser and pay attention to the URLs in play
