Hello!

First time poster and new to the edu-tech world!

We've been using Smoothwall for filtering and it works a treat naturally, but on our Impero monitoring system it showed a student on a faux-classroom.

It had the basic premise of a regular classroom (stream etc bar along the top) but the main page had some games built into it that definitely aren't on the curriculum, even had a big button at the top of the page that said 'Click here if your teacher is coming' and when clicked it auto switched tab to the genuine classroom relevant to a lesson.

Is there a way to prevent access to these at all through filtering? There was no class code/invite code visible, and the URL wasn't registering on SWall for some reason no matter what we did.

Thanks!

Without HTTPS inspection, the full URL is not available to the filter. It can only see the domain part - which is likely why the Smoothwall can't block a specific URL in the classroom.

If HTTPS inspection can be enabled you can try that or another option is to use our cloud filter extension which is an extension to browsers. The filtering by the extension is not reliant on HTTPS inspection as the filtering happens in the browser, not on the proxy. Talk to your account manager if interested. It's part of the license and a great new tool in the filter toolbox.
