Smoothwall Directories and Nested Groups from AD

Does the Directories section of the Smoothwall support Nested groups in AD?

 

What i mean by nested groups in AD is, if a group is within a group, is Smoothwall aware of these groups?

 

For example.

 

I have a user (User1) which is a member of AD Group Intake2022.

 

Group Intake2022 is a member of AD Group Students.

 

The AD Group Students is mapped in Smoothwall directories to the Students local group on the Smoothwall.

 

This is where the issue is, students are not getting access to the net, only the sites in the proxy exceptions are being allowed so this to me says that Smoothwall isn't aware of Nested groups.

 

The only way to work around this it to have the AD Group Intake2022 mapped to the Students local group on the Smoothwall.

 

I'm sure i read or was told that Smoothwall worked with nested groups unless i dreamt it.

As far as I am aware, we do support nested groups in AD. There is a caching time though - normally set to 10 mins so if you have just mapped or moved users/groups, you may first see the change after 10 minutes in the mappings.

Are you using the "Active Directory" type or "IDex Directory"?

 

From my experience IDex v1 supports nested groups, but IDex v2 doesn't.

We are using iDex v2 - which could be why we are seeing the nested groups not working.

Do we know if Nested Groups will be coming back to Idex v2 in the near future?

I believe the last we heard was "Dev are aware, but it's not a priority."
