excel lookup problem, can someone help me please?

Trying to do a lookup, and it is kind of working.

 

Basically got a list of pupil codes, and a number of different pupil codes correspond to a single other code.

stashed away in the sheet is another couple of rows which Im looking up:

Its working for the first lookup, but for the other two, it isnt working.. Can anybody spot what I have done wrong?

 

the formula I used is

 

=INDEX($AJ$226:$AK$1833,MATCH($C7,$AK$226:$AK$1833,),MATCH("payerref",$AJ$226:$AK$226,))

 

Any help with this would be great.. Im not too hot with excel and been stuck with this for ages

County filter has blocked the images, could you host them elsewhere?

seems I was over-complicating myself.

 

=VLOOKUP($C7,$AJ$226:$AK$1833,2,FALSE)

 

thats all I needed hah.

Would vlookup not be easier to use in this situation?
