Hi there,

I am mystified, granted I don't do this often, but I keep getting a permission error.

I have downloaded the Windows 11 21H2 Administrative Templates for our 2016 server. We are about to put our first few Windows 11 stations onto the domain.

See below screenshot.

Left hand window is the extracted Administrative Template Files.

Middle window is the %sysvol%\Policy Definitions folder.

Left window is \\domain.internal\Policies\PolicyDefinitions folder.

When I have attempted to copy the left hand Windows 11 templates to the middle %sysvol% Policy Definitions folder, I keep getting a Destination Folder Access Denied 'You need permission to perform this action' message. If I click on try again, I get the same error. It refuses to let me copy the new files over.

However, if I do it to the far right window it takes them no problem.

But I can see that the files and folder in the far right window, do not match the SysVol Policy Definitions folder.

Does anyone know why these would be mismatched and also how I can get around the Access Denied problem?

The local policy definitions one isn’t replicated between DCs it’s only local to said DC you update it on (Not even as local sysvol does)

The other one is the central store which is shared between them all

In terms of the error I wouldn’t worry as you shouldn’t be using/updating that one if you have a central store
