OneDrive - Students loosing work

We get random reports where students say they have saved their work, the OneDrive icon shows its syncing, but their work is not there and not in the recycle bin.

 

We checked OneDrive is up to date, any other ideas?

Have the students waited until the sync is complete?

Sync is usually the issue. They close the file, log off or shut the computer down and it doesn't give the OneDrive client enough time to feed the file back up. On a personal device this doesn't matter but if they use the same device or go to access the file from a different PC or online they will think it wasn't saved. Even worse if you clear profiles at shutdown or don't have local profiles at all.

Yes with the OneDrive sync client this is an issue on shared computers or if a user moves workstation. Microsoft do you have a method for resolving this and it’s called FSLogix office profile. We use FSLogix for our profiles and It solves the issue described by using VHDXs And redirecting the files to these VHDX profiles. Then if a user logs onto another PC they just mount the VHDXs and carry on OneDrive Syncing the same files. Only downside is file storage space for the VHDXs and users can only log on to one PC at a time.

I think you can do some voodoo to have logins and a differential sync but actually the restriction is probably a good thing. You do need to be correctly licenced for FS Logix.

 

You also need storage for all those profiles [emoji16].
