windows 2008 r2 AD loader on another windows server 2008r2

Hi, I'm new to the forum.I would like to know, I have to migrate windows server 2008r2 pack1 to windows server2019.but to practice I want to use first try to do it locally (VMware). is it possible to load a copy of AD windows 2008 to another windows server 2008r2 different (VMware)?thank you

 

I have already tried with windows backup server , but I could not use this backup to copy it to my virtual machine, I also tried to use U-move .... still cannot

you might try https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd i used it at home years ago on a 2008R2 DC physical server i moved onto Hyper-V and it worked.. would let you setup a test

i also used it recently on my 2012R2 Physical SQL server to Virtualise it before doing inplace upgrades of SQL and Windows up to 2022 and SQL 2019
