Apple configuration 2 - Remote Management Timeout Error

Hi All,

 

Hope someone has had the same issue but I have setup AC2 and school manager but when I prepare any iPad every thing copies across ok but then on the iPad after the Wi-Fi selection screen, a remote management comes up and we get an error “The request timed out”

 

Nothing related to our setup

In school because I have tethered the iPad to my phone to give it a direct connection out.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

How are you adding your devices to your MDM? Are you using DEP or an enrollment URL in your blueprint? I have seen this when there is a typo in the enrollment URL.

Just using Apple configurator 2 and School Manager, no actual MDM is configured as it isn’t needed.

We just need a basic profile and some apps, nothing more, so would prefer to use AC2 as our MDM

Are the devices added to ASM then? If so have they maybe been assigned to an MDM you no longer have or doesnt exist? Check and make sure they're showing as unassigned in the devices section in ASM and then the remote management screen shouldnt appear at all.

No you dont need to add them to ASM if you dont want to.

I have now unassigned in ASM, let’s see how I go.

I can’t even prepare a device to be supervised now because I assume as the device is listed in ASM so therefore I will need to release the device?

If you want to supervise them using your Mac then yes release them from ASM.

Strange thing is that the iPad wasn’t in ASM before but still the remote management screen appeared.

Check your blueprint and make sure there isnt any remote management added. You would do this when you click prepare on the menu bar.

I supervised the iPad, I created a new blueprint with a profile that has the Wi-Fi network configured only and added one app.

 

After the blueprint has been pushed, I still receive the remote management screen.

Your question isn't clear and doesn't provide many details.

 

You can manually add an iPad using ac2 to Automated Device Enrolment (ADE) aka the service formerly known as DEP.

Once you do that, you need to login to ASM and point your iPad to your MDM.

 

As for the timeout. Apple has changed its network requirements document in the last 4 weeks, see:

Make sure you have all the right hosts and ports open.

Thanks, the question is very clear, why do I get an error. I’ve sorted the issue now because as soon as you import your organisation into AC2 from ASM the iPad will think they are under remote management.

So having no org set or MDM server, I’ve got it working.
