Purple Mash (coding) - playing a sound causes PC to crash...

Had a report yesterday from a teacher that whilst in our ICT suite using Purple Mash there was some problems playing sound...

 

didn't sound important and they'd finished their lesson, so I said I'd look into it when I had a minute (and promptly forgot about it as my 'to do' list is very long right now with some more serious issues).

 

Anyway, just before I went home last night a cleaner popped in to my office and asked "what's going on with the computers?" apparently they were still on (not uncommon), but I said they will shut themselves down at 4 o'clock....

 

Well, I passed the ICT suite on my way out and they were still on (they had actually crashed and required a hard reset).

 

They were all on Purple Mash and they all had a coding page open and 'play a sound' or something similar as the last command.

 

Anybody had anything similar?

 

I haven't had anything to do with Purple Mash so far as it was sold as a 'teacher friendly' way to do the computing curriculum as a paint by number thing with zero IT knowledge being required, so I've just let them get on with it.

Do the machine have speakers or headphones? Is it just that they don't have any sound device connected or active and that causes the software to lock up? Seems a bit extreme mind.

Not as extreme as you'd think... we used to have a teacher that liked the children to play a game on the web that wouldn't even load if you didn't have headphones plugged in!

 

So anyway, good shout actually, but I don't think so...

 

We have headphones (but the ones with removeable cables) the cables are always plugged in and cable tied to the machines.
