Deploy Shared Printer over IPSEC VPN

Hi,

Please move this post to a better thread if this is not the best place for it!

 

I am having a IPSec VPN set up by a company, rather like below:

 

Site A: Main Network / Servers /Clients Firewall -------Tunnel------ Remote Site B: Firewall / Clients / Printer / WiFi

 

Now obviously the main network (School A) has it's own subnets and on Remote School (Site B) there are new subnets being set up.

 

How do I go about sharing a deployed printer on Site B to clients on site B? Presumably the printer is going to have to be given a different static on the different network so it can be shared by the server but the server rests on site A.

 

Printer is already shared to clients and set up with an address on Site A so how is this done? Or am I overthinking it?

This will work fine. We have a single print server for 20+ locations. It does mean all jobs will go via the VPN link to the server and back down again to the printer. But if you have a good connection that will be fine, we run this on 25 down 10 meg up links without issues. Make sure the printers default gateway is set or it won't work.

You have 2 options.

 

1. If you want to keep the clients on site A connected to it modify the IP address on the port on the print server.

2. If you don't want blow away all the configuration, delete the printer from the machine via GPO and set it up as a fresh.
