Hi all,

We use Smoothwall for our Internet filtering. Have been informed that SSL Certificates need to be renewed every 2 years on the Smoothwall box due to GPDR requirements and pushed out to clients. This can a bit cumbersome.

I just wondered if anyone else out there using other 3rd party filtering has to renew every 2 years also.

Thanks all

I don't know who tol you that is it a GDPR requirement. It's not.

It's a requirement of the CAB Forum, which is the industry group of Certificate Authorities.

You've got 825 days/27 months. 24 months + 3 months carry over when renewing your previous certificate)

SSL/TLS certificates are now 398 days. All browsers will reject any SSL/TLS certificates that are older than that too.

It's nothing to do with GDPR, its a change in the industry standard to improve security.

  • Thanks 1
