Nagios Headache

I am having a slight problem with Nagios 3.0.2 with plug in set 1.4.11. When I log into the web interface I get the error message "Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing".. which is a really big headache since this is the only issue (at the moment, knock on wood), that I am having.

 

I used the chmod 555 cmd to make the /usr/local/nagios/libexec folder which holds all the plug in's readable and writeable, and still no change. My SNMP is community so I know it isnt that.

 

I recomplied and installed the plug ins.. and still no change...

 

Any ideas? please help since I am getting very frustrated with this.

 

Also, at the moment all I have configured was my switches/routers and printers. As for the switches and routers, they just ping, and that command works fine

Which command/plugin is producing the error? What happens if you manually run the command?

I recall a similar error, not 100% sure this was the fix but, did you do an upgrade from a previous version?

If so did you shutdown the old nagios server berfore you started the new one?

try shutdown nagios, then ps -aux and kill all the nagios processes and restart.

Hey, thank you both for your reply The pluggin is for my printers, trying to use SNMP to monitor the different problems it may encounter (IE - low toner, open door ect). This is SUPPOSE to be in the plugin package @ Nagios: Downloads underneath plugins.

 

Honestly, I do not know how to run the command to execute the service, so if you could help there I would appreciate it.

 

Never upgraded, this is a brand new install of Nagios 3.0.2 on Ubuntu 7.10 inside a VMWare 6.2 host

The only cmd I have for the switches/routers is running is the PING cmd since I do not want to enable SNMP on our Cisco 2950

Hello once again,

 

Thanks to the guys who posted back.. appreciate it. I decided to run the cmd inside the nagios plug in folder (v1.4.12)

 

./configure --with-nagios-user=nagios --with-nagios-group=nagios

 

And noticed a warning stating that SNMP was not installed on the localhost

 

Went ahead to Net-SNMP and downloaded the latest packet

 

Recomplied and installed the plug ins once again as per the quick start guide and this tool works now (backed up my printer.cfg file located in #/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/printer.cfg
