Veeam pricing

We've run Veeam on two older servers to backup several hosts (3 on one and 2 on another) due to legacy kit etc. This meant we had Veeam for 6 CPUs on one license and 2 CPUs on another - about £1k a year

 

However I'm trying to merge all the hosts onto one backup server so 8 CPUs in total. However veeam won't allow us to merge them and only offer an upgrade to the version above which is nearer £20k!

 

Thats a ridiculous price for us so we're probably ditching Veeam, so can anyone recommend a good VmWare backup solution, as we backup VMs to NAS, and also to a tape autoloader and will also probably add cloud in the near future?

 

I'd be laughed out of the meeting where I propose 20 grand for backup software alone!

Have you considered moving across to the new licensing models? (Per VM rather than CPU)

 

Just been quoting up for a new server build and it's roughly working out £200 for 5 VMs, so even 50 VMs is £2k~ (Edu price assuming you're still that rather than business?)

Last month I managed to merge our Veeam licenses which were originally purchased on different dates by getting them co-termed through Phoenix Software. One of the licenses was due for renewal soon so I am not sure if that made any difference?

What Veeam edition/package do you currently have? £20K doesn't sound quite right.

We have essentials as well, it seems 6 sockets is the limit on a license before you have to upgrade and then hit the silly price band

 

I've asked for pricing on the VM model, as £20k is a non starter
