JamF - Changing Device Names

Hi,

 

When enrolling new DEP devices in JamF, the Device Name column has Do Not Change in it?

How can I change the device name?

 

On our old ones, the device name (which was set when the device was setup to differentiate each device) appears on the lock screen.

The do not change device name is only during the Enrolment stage.

 

You can go into any device in JAMF and edit the details. This will then rename the device.

This will really depend whether you are in a 1:1 device deployment or not.

 

Jamf School can be connected to AD so if in a 1:1 senario you can ask users to authenticate when they activate the iPad, this then attaches the iPad device name to that user in Jamf. If the iPads are shared then it's much more manual to populate users with device names.

 

Ideally you would still want non destrictive user names attached to devices, it makes identification of devices far more easy.
