6Foot2 Posted April 14, 2021 Author Posted April 14, 2021 The Jurassic Coast's biggest rockfall in 60 years: 4,000-ton chunk falls off 430ft high cliff sending boulders the size of cars plummeting towards picturesque beach. An enormous 4,000-ton rockfall from a 430ft cliff has completely blocked off a beach along a stretch of Britain's historic Jurassic Coast. Rangers have been assessing the damage throughout the day and Dorset Council is warning people to stay away.
6Foot2 Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 The dramatic moment a huge chunk of 150ft tall cliffs comes crashing down on a beach is caught on video. The footage shows more than 1,000 tonnes of ancient rock suddenly collapsing in two stages at West Bay in Dorset. The rockfall happens seconds after a 'little puff of dust' is seen coming from the middle of the sandstone cliff just as it is about to crumble. Moments later a 150ft tall stack falls away and slumps on to the beach. The fall immediately weakens the neighbour rock buttress which then goes the same way. The footage was shot at 10.53am on January 18.
6Foot2 Posted March 24, 2025 Author Posted March 24, 2025 Link: Large crack appears in Beachy Head cliff near Eastbourne - BBC News Quote A warning has been issued to stay away from cliff edges after a large crack appeared in a cliff in East Sussex. The crack stretches a couple of metres along a section of cliffs close to the Belle Tout lighthouse at Beachy Head near Eastbourne. There have been several cliff falls in the area, including one in a nearby spot in 2021. Birling Gap Coastguard warned people to "keep safe and stay away from cliff edges and bases". In the 2021 fall, tonnes of chalk fell on to the beach below the cliffs, cutting off an access path to the former lighthouse. The lighthouse, which was decommissioned in 1902, and is now holiday accommodation, has already been moved due to coastal erosion.
