Huge Dedup folder in System Volume Information

We've noticed that on our staff file server, which has a 2TB drive, 1.7TB is taken up by the "E:\System Volume Information\Dedup\ChunkStore" folder. From information I've found so far (including this thread), dedup is on by default in Windows Server. We also have VSS running on that drive, which I believe also stores data in System Volume Information.

 

My question is; without disabling dedup, is it possible to reclaim some of that space without causing issues anywhere else? After a few recent outages, I don't think our department reputation would do well if I performed a change and it killed a bunch more stuff.

I saw that and also saw the comment someone posted. The schedule tasks are there; for weekly garbage collection and scrubbing and they both ran successfully on 10/10/2020.

 

Maybe it's just that we're using 1.7TB of the 2TB drive and the data is being stored in that dedeup folder?

Have a look in the server manager to see if the sizes match.

 

Also you could download treesize and you can see what size your file store should be if it weren’t deduped.
