Raspberry Pi 4 Kit - Home Assistant

I am looking to set up a Raspberry Pi 4 to run Home Assistant in the house and I was wondering what cases etc people have that are working well for them over the base kit.

I have heard murmurs the Pi 4 has some heat issues so I am keen to avoid but I dont want a crazy loud fan as well.

 

Any pointers would be helpful.

and yes they do run on the warm side... to avoid having the CPU restricted a fan cooled case is recommended, (oh and they aint loud).

 

Am going to add this, the case will use some of the pins on the GPIO pins so if you need to use these pins then clearly the fans will not run, but i have a few powered bread boards that take care of that issue when doing proto work.

I've got a Raspberry Pi 4 in one of those cases running on my desktop here in front of me - I can't hear the fans at all, they are pretty much silent. In the picture in the link above you can see a power cable coming from the fans to the Pi's pin interface, this actually tucks in to the side of the pins quite nicely, so there isn't a bit of wire dangling off the Pi to get snagged on things. The fans are just bare, there's nothing nothing to stop you / small children / pets / random passers-by poking fingers / noses / pencils / cheese sticks / etc into them - I've not tried it myself, I doubt they are particularly dangerous, but worth pointing out.

@dhicks that argon case is nice... that will probably the case that i get for my next Pi.

I use a flirc case for my pi4 running home assistant. It’s completely passive and is excellent. I’d buy a second without hesitation if required.

 

Home assistant is excellent too but I’m in the process of moving my automations to node red (but still calling home assistant entities). I prefer the more advanced node red flows to the more simple yaml automations - although they are improving.
