MArmstrong Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hi I'm after a bit of advice before I start our summer rebuild of Adobe Software. We've been pulled up in a security audit for running a couple of unpatched Adobe apps so i'm looking at implementing app updates during the summer rebuild. We moved over to Shared Device Licensing last summer which was fine (although I really fail to see the benefit for education and don't get me started on the lack of SSO) and I deployed packages without auto updates. I'm wondering how people have handled this in a classroom environment? If I install the Creative Cloud agent and allow auto updates, how does this work in reality when a classroom machine could be logged in to by a different student every hour? Does it slow down the machine at all. I've also seen something called the Remote Update Manager, is this a better road to go down? I'm just worried about students either A- having a machine that is really struggling because it is updating Adobe in the background or B- unable to open an Adobe package because its in the middle of updating We've probably got approx 1000 machines with some form of an Adobe package installed, the majority being Windows. Any advice appreciated! thanks
computer_expert Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 (edited) I've used RUM before. You can optionally use AUSST to download the updates to a local server and point the clients to that (rather than reaching out to adobe) for updates. https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/enterprise/package/help/using-remote-update-manager.html https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/enterprise/package/help/update-server-setup-tool.html Reading though the docs for AUSST, it looks like it has improved a lot since I last looked at it! free780 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 (edited) I did a powershell script run by SCCM which would query if Photoshop was installed and if the version was the latest. Then run RUM just for the product installed. So I got a bit of change control. You could also have a fast ring and slow ring. I was also going to create some compliance items to monitor the version. I also found Acrobat didn't update at first, I had to specify the version in the command ljne. If your worried about interrupting the users use a maintaince window or use if statements to query if Photoshop.exe is running. RUM closes a running application if it needs to with no user notification. Also bear in mind the Creative Cloud Desktop App needs to be manually created via the Adobe Admin Console and updated via SCCM as an Apllication with supercedance. You may be able to leverage the API to automate. Edited June 29, 2020 by free780
dazheelas Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Hi we are also struggling deploying Adobe updates with AUSST. Would someone mind sharing how they complete the task.
