Got a question about home set up across two households (my place and folks) with 6 users - all windows 10 laptop clients. Currently got a Synology ds218 running Active Directory, DHCP and DNS at main home. Files are mix of Office 365 for home and synology NAS. Issue occurs when synology VPN is a pain when at the other house accessing files, not an auto connect vpn and can be slow - thoughts ?

I’d like to think about moving AD to cloud, is Azure free for home use ? And can I connect to via cloud ?

Thoughts ?

What exactly is the purpose of the VPN etc? If it's only for sharing files between users etc, wouldn't it be easier to just base it on a shared OneDrive/Synology sync

Got a similar setup just using a shared folder within OneDrive that syncs to NAS via CloudSync, all users can connect to the OneDrive share

Unless you actually want to manage logins via AD etc seems like making a job a lot harder than it's needed :p

I like that fact the clients are slightly locked down lol - saves dad installing nonsense ! I like the fact that I can get them to change passwords etcs... I could replace them all with a Microsoft OneDrive account login ??

Tell me more about cloud sync to symbology with OneDrive - we have 5 users on OneDrive - does syno do something with that?
