Christ these BSF People speak rubbish...

He contradicts himself

A/ He says he keeps ICT in the Schools and next thing there is a Sever Farm in Portsmouth that takes ALL the ICT away from the schools and the Schools can NEVER get ICT back in-house unless thay spend a fortune...

Personally I have not got a problem with the server farm being in portsmouth afterall I don't go to my server I just remote to it to do anything and seeing as the roof leakes and it took a major melt down to get air con fitted in my server room the servers would be better ofsite... however given the lack of reliability of my internet connection perhaps they are better off were i can see them after all :)

I don't think it's safe to assume you will be still allowed access to the servers (remote or otherwise) once a managed service takes over though.;)

You have to bear in mind that some schools have been starved of ICT investment for years, so naturally there will be success stories for BSF.

If you are PfS & you want to say BSF is a success, pick one of the poor (in ICT terms) schools, throw loads of money, support, and equipment at it and then you can be almost certain that you will get a favourable response when asked how are things now, especially if you are in the honeymoon period immediately after they are up & running.

I want to hear from a school that was leading the way with ICT before BSF, a couple of years into BSF, when they have had time to get to grips with what they have got/no longer have, and have got a realistic idea of what the true costs are.

Only then will we begin to get a balanced view of what BSF and Managed ICT services really means.

Exactly:

"Hi, I'm from your ISP. We're having severe connection problems today. It could take us the good part of the day to fix, sorry for the Inconvenience".

What's that? Network down? Oh boo-hoo!
