jamwatn Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Hi, I'm having issues 'deploying' Blender 2.8.1 to a Mac suite. The usual process of using Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to copy the '.app' into Applications does not work with this app. I've tested with other apps and they run perfectly, however Blender 2.8.1 gives weird issues. Copy is successful, but the app only runs with a local admin account on the Mac and the app doesn't get granted the same permissions as other Apps in the Applications folder. When I set the correct permissions, the app then loads the correct icon (not a cross through) but states it is corrupt and needs to be re-downloaded. Blender support is next to useless and are pointing me to Apple support. Any advice very much welcome. Thanks
Brimstone Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Thats because of Mojave's extra security for Permissions to data for Apps, take a look here... https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT203538
jamwatn Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Not really sure which part of that page I am looking at, would I need to do this on the administrative account of all the 200+ Macs? I don't have problems using the method I have used with other Apps, EG: Chrome.app copies across using ARD and runs nicely. It's just Blender 2.8.1, not 2.8.0 either.
jamwatn Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Or...do I need to do this on the 'Source' Mac where the files are being copied from?
Brimstone Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The App will need to be able to require you to grant it permission to access system level services, more up to date apps have this built into them
jamwatn Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 How do I grant it permission? I give it Everyone:Everyone and it still doesn't work, there's no prompt to elevate it further either.
Brimstone Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 This is not just done in the info window... https://macpaw.com/how-to/full-disk-access-mojave
jamwatn Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Thanks but unfortunately the program still doesn't run.
Gangi Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Thanks but unfortunately the program still doesn't run. I have exactly the same Probleme. Did you fixed it in the meantime?
jamwatn Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 I have exactly the same Probleme. Did you fixed it in the meantime? Hello, indeed I found a fix and this also applies to the newest Blender 2.8.1 non alpha. Send the following command to the Macs after having put the app into applications: chmod -R 555 /Applications/Blender.app
Arthur Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Hello, indeed I found a fix and this also applies to the newest Blender 2.8.1 non alpha. Does 2.8.2 also have this issue? It was released on 14th February.
jamwatn Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Does 2.8.2 also have this issue? It was released on 14th February. I'm just pushing it out today and indeed I've had to do the same permissions modification. Not quite sure if it's just the way our Macs are set up or a problem with Blender itself but as I said every other app deployed with the same method works totally fine.
jamwatn Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Just a correction, the newest version is 2.8.2 and also has this issue. I got my numbers mixed up!!
Gangi Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Hallo jamwatn, perfect, thank you, changing the rights runs perfect. Just tested it with ARD. 125 Students will be happy - the problem seems to be solved!
joewb Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Take a look at Packages, a free app to package apps up and add a post-install script to repair permissions. Makes it a single process and saves remembering to repair permissions if you ever need to rebuild a device. WhiteBox - Packages
Gangi Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Perfect, I will try this! I used this tool to deploy blender via ARD but I failed because of the right rights.
