it's to connect our internet uplink directly to the fibre switch, but the internet wire is 100mb and the fibre switch ports are 1gb minimum.

Possibly; for £15 it's not much of a gamble-

 

Though Unifi do a Fibre-Copper connector https://store.ui.com/products/uf-rj45-1g-1 though we use the 10G modules for our network https://store.ui.com/products/uf-rj45-10g-1

If in doubt, go Mikrotik; used both MM and SM transceivers in our unifi switches for 10 and 1gbit with no issues.

Used them for the 10G links in our Unifi Edge Lite switches and not had any issues.
