[Office 365 / O365 / 365] Address Book Policy ABP Question / Queries

Hi all, so currently we have the following setup regarding our Address Book Policy in 365:

Every night an attribute gets modified for every sync'd user, this then flows up to 365 and 'tickles' the address books to update them accordingly.

Ideally, we would like to control the access to said Address Books via group membership to allow flexibility for our 1st/2nd line teams to manage.

Does anyone know if this is possible and has anyone successfully done this?

Am assuming we would create a group with an attribute instead of the user and simply manage accordingly, just wondered if anyone else has done this and any pit falls to look out for?
