Position: IT Technician

Line Manager: IT Manager

Salary: 16k-19k depending on experience

Introduction

IT Systems and Services at Ballard have undergone a period of growth and redevelopment. With the continuing growth of our Bring Your Own Device programme, we have invested substantial resources in our IT infrastructure to establish a sophisticated and robust environment for our staff and pupils.

[h=1]Job description[/h]· To provide first line technical support in accordance with the school’s ICT requirement.

· To keep appropriate records of support requests and actions taken.

· To support pupils and staff – both teaching and non-teaching - in the appropriate use of ICT.

· To support members of staff using audio/visual equipment.

· To check and maintain the school’s ICT resources for safe, effective use by pupils and staff.

· To follow targets and objectives set out by the IT Manager.

· Carry out other reasonable duties as required by the IT Manager, Bursar or Headmaster

[h=1]Key Responsibilities:[/h]· Desktop Support - perform PC hardware repairs and upgrades. Install applications and troubleshoot problems. Replace printer consumables as required.

· ICT/AV Presentation Setup/Support – setup projectors, laptops and audio visual equipment for presentations and public speakers.

· Health & Safety – carry out basic safety checks. Follow relevant H&S procedures and raise awareness among staff, pupils and other users.

· Configuration & Installation - update records of installed hardware and software; maintain a software library and store original copies of installed applications and licences.

· Continuity, Maintenance & Security - Follow routine maintenance procedures. Follow school backup, virus protection and security procedures.

· Support Request Management - respond to support requests according to school procedures, recording detailed diagnostic information and using appropriate knowledge bases/logs to inform diagnosis and resolution. Determine whether an immediate solution is both required and possible.

 

[h=1][/h][h=1][/h][h=1][/h][h=1]Personal and Professional Qualities Required:[/h]· Good Communication Skills – Be able to interact with staff and pupils in a polite, professional and friendly manner

· A desire to develop IT skills - training will be provided by the school and IT Manager

· The ability to take ownership of tasks and use initiative to solve problems. A ‘can-do’ approach is essential

· Team player with the ability to work on own when needed

 

 

[h=2]Desirable Attributes:[/h]· Experience with Windows and MacOS

· Experience with Active Directory

· Experience with Cisco Switches and Networking

· Experience of working in a school environment
