[sims] Commandreporter parameters linked areas

Hi all,

 

I am trying to get a report to run regularly using command reporter. However I need to be able to set a date to filter one of the linked areas (the blue options on report builder). My issue is that commandreporter using /PARAMDEF will only give me parameters for the main report, not the sub report/linked areas. Does anyone know a way to pass these parameters through on commandreporter?

Just on the off chance, is this affected by selecting 'Prompt at runtime' in the filter condition(s) of your linked areas?

look at the sims powerbi examples they released - John Christian has done a lovely excel template that passes dynamic dates into your reports.

Got the prompt at runtime set, so if I run the report through sims it does ask for the dates.

It seems to work on one level down but not two levels down if that makes sense.

So what are you doing with the data once you've exported it? PowerBI is basically a reporting tool, you point it at data and create reports, the advantage over normal static reports is you can interact with them - so you can click on that graph and drill into how the numbers are built up

This report in particular is to send a reminder email to staff who have not completed their register. I use a power shell script to process the missing marks data and then email the teacher if they haven’t completed their registration register (which is an ongoing issue here).

 

As I don’t want all the attendance marks, only for the days date, I need to input the mark date of the sub sub report. I could do it using all marks and then filter it down later but it takes forever to run a report on that many marks out of sims, and this needs to be run and processed in no more than a minute.

 

I will look at powerbi as that could be useful for other things though.

guess your staff aren't even logging into SIMS then, as it's got a perfectly functional missing register alert system.

 

maybe a script to identify those who haven't got SIMS running and email those?

I thought there was a built in report for this? Surely, if staff haven't got SIMS open, chances are they haven't got the computer on to receive the email?

Issue is the attendance officer can see missing register on sims, yes you can send a ping but half the time the staff don’t have sims open or pay attention to messages in sims as it’s a feature we do not use.

They always have their laptops on, just not sims open. Having an email which will also CC in the deputy headteacher in charge of this area and safeguarding will add some weight and repeated offenders will be spoken to. That’s if I can get it to work.
