We’re changing our backup plan from all cloud (£££) to local VM backup and just legal requirement stuff (sims, finance) to the cloud.

Even though the on-site backup is in a second location we still need some offsite emergency backup storage for our 2TB user and curriculum folders. We have google drive education unlimited storage and we’re going to use Goodsync to send it up there for weekly single copy backup, but it errors, goes about 4K/sec and doesn’t look like it will ever work. Not really designed for all the small files and deep nested folders.

So....what to do? I don’t want to bring a usb drive home every week like the olden days. We don’t have any partner schools.

We've been using a program called Syncbackpro https://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/sbpro.html - educational discount available and 30 days trial

Very configurable and although I've only tested it on a smallish folder it may help with your gdrive backup.

We also tested it with syncing gdrive to a server folder both ways and it seemed to cope well.

It has gdrive oath and loads of settings with excellent reporting options - we've even used it to run a task to move saved scan files older than 4 days to the recycle bin which effectively deletes them so they aren't hanging around (GDPR)

it takes a lot for software to impress me but I like it a lot.

How are you VM backing up now? If it's veeam then use Veeam to offload a copy to the cloud - it should be much faster and you can do fancy things with reverse incremental etc to make sure you are only copying the minimum amount of data in your backups.

Thanks
