Hi all,

I would just like to know if emailing potential new clients for business requires consent from the client first under GPDR ? I have heard mixed things regarding this and would like to know what others actually do or thoughts are. Under GPDR is it recommended to make first contact via telephone ?

Thanks all

I don't think the means of first communication is to important. Where did you get the list of new clients? If the info is in the public domain, I doubt you have an issue. It's more likely that PECR is relevant than GDPR. For starters, have a read here.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the list of clients is in the public domain.

Hi. Whilst I agree it will probably be included under the new e-privacy laws this has not been finalised. The reality is that the law will not be enforced until next year at the earliest so you can continue to follow current guidelines.

Whilst not finalised, that area has been heavily discussed, and a lot of people are taking the approach that either you start considering it a bad habit to stop now or you make preparations to change when the law comes in.

Be prepared.
