discoveranother Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Hi all, I would just like to know if emailing potential new clients for business requires consent from the client first under GPDR ? I have heard mixed things regarding this and would like to know what others actually do or thoughts are. Under GPDR is it recommended to make first contact via telephone ? Thanks all
Ditto Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 I don't think the means of first communication is to important. Where did you get the list of new clients? If the info is in the public domain, I doubt you have an issue. It's more likely that PECR is relevant than GDPR. For starters, have a read here.

Yes the list of clients is in the public domain.
AndyCrow Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Under PECR there is currently also a difference in who you address the email to within the organisation. For example [email protected] is not personal data therefore whereas johnsmith @company.com is.

AndyCrow Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi. Whilst I agree it will probably be included under the new e-privacy laws this has not been finalised. The reality is that the law will not be enforced until next year at the earliest so you can continue to follow current guidelines.
GrumbleDook Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Whilst not finalised, that area has been heavily discussed, and a lot of people are taking the approach that either you start considering it a bad habit to stop now or you make preparations to change when the law comes in. Be prepared.
discoveranother Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 Thanks all for the responses, much appreciated it. So what is the general consensus ? That a phone call will eventually have to be made first or you can email [email protected] but not [email protected] ? Thanks all
