Needed a way to disable the splash screen that shows when Audacity is run so whipped up this PowerShell script. Maybe it's of use to some of you?

Some PS genius can probably convert this to a one-liner or make it a lot more efficient but it does the job as is!

# PowerShell script to disable the splash screen’
$File = "$env:APPDATA\audacity\audacity.cfg"
$FileExists = Test-Path $File
If ($FileExists -eq $True) {
   # File exists, disable Audacity splash screen...
   ((Get-Content -Path $File -Raw) -replace 'ShowSplashScreen=1','ShowSplashScreen=0') | Set-Content -Path $File
 }
  else {
   # File does not exist
 }

I'm deploying it via GP which isn't the most efficient as it will read the contents of the Audacity config file each file (if it's found) even if the value has already been changed. So like I said there's probably more effiecient ways to get this out there but it works so will do for now.

UPDATE: This script will only work if users have previously opened Audacity. This is due to Audacity not creating it's config file until the software is run for the first time.

UPDATE 2: The line "ShowSplashScreen" is only present in the config file if the user has ticked the "Don't show this again at start up" so the script will fail even for repeated launches of the software unless the value of ShowSplashScreen is 1.

UPDATE 3: Looks like the only way to get the script to work for new users is if the config file is created before the software is run for the first time and the the line ShopSplashScreen=1 is added. Not sure if this would affect the rest of the config though so will need further testing.

Thought about that initially but the config includes info about soundcards which differ between machines so don't think it would work although I've not tested it.

Edit. Create the config file with just the entries you want as defaults (example below), then overwrite using Group Policy Preferences on login. Check the setting to only do this once.

PrefsVersion=1.1.1r1

[Locale]
Language=en

[GUI]
ShowSplashScreen=0

[Window]
Maximized=1
