Network Issues

Hello,

We are experiencing quite a few technical issues at the moment but unsure if more than one problem at play.

 

One of our reception computers that runs the switchboard software kept signing out which has led us to a network issue. Pings are spiking and occasionally timing out but not frequently enough to get back to basics of segmenting and isolating.

 

The network at the moment is running a mixture of HP switches (HPE, HP, 3com, Aruba - 5800, 2920, 1910, 1920, 2948). Not seeing many errors but just before leaving today spotted some send or receive discards on a 10gbe SFP+ DAC cable that is linking to core switches.

 

Any advice on where to even begin with this? It is almost like a storm but not very severe! We had something similar a few years ago where a PC was malfunctioning and causing a storm but the packet loss was much more noticeable.

 

My first thought is to enable spanning tree. We have managed without it up until now

Pull the DAC cable out and have a good look and sniff of it - I've seen other schools that have had DAC cables start to melt. I am not a fan of them I prefer to use fibre for uplinks.

Thanks hadn't even thought of doing that. We have a similar issue on the storage side and I think that could also be a DAC cable.

 

Will take a look Monday
