CHiLL Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 So I have a Printer GPO that contains 32 printers, configured in the 'User Configuration > Control Panel Settings > Printers' section. Ordering the printers by 'Order', the first is 'Delete All'. Then the printers are listed in the order they were added (there are item-level targeting rules that also apply to target certain users, groups, computers, OUs, etc). However, I've found that when students log into the library, they are not receiving a printer. Upon checking the GPResult, I can see that the policy first added the printer (item 18 in the list) and then ran the 'Delete All', (first item in the list). The reason we have the 'Delete All' option is to remove ghost printers, such as when a member of staff logs onto a student computer and gets the Photocopier added, the next student to log on would also get Photocopier, which we don't want. Is there any reason why it's not processing it in the correct order? How can I prevent this from happening? Here's a look at our list:
Duke5A Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 No ideas as to the order, but network printers have always been a per-user thing - the only printers I see be available for different profiles are local ones. Are you sure the deletion is necessary?
CHiLL Posted September 12, 2018 Author Posted September 12, 2018 No ideas as to the order, but network printers have always been a per-user thing - the only printers I see be available for different profiles are local ones. Are you sure the deletion is necessary? Thanks for the reply. We use follow-me-printing for staff and direct printing for students and found that without the deletion, it would leave 'ghost' printers in the list for the next user. So if a member of staff logs onto a computer, they get the Photocopier virtual queue. When a student logs on, they get the direct queue added specifically for the room they are in (item-level targeting based on machine OU). However without the delete item, students were also seeing the Photocopier queue when they shouldn't.
Steady Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Ok I have had a lot of pain with printers lets see if any of my tips help you. I assign printers and then allocate them - that's a two step process. step 1 GPolicy - User - Policies - Windows settings - Printer Connections Set your printer connections as per your needs. step2 GPolicy - User -Preferences - control panel settings - printers Set your printers as per you needs < set one of them a default in here > Then on the LOG OFF SCRIPTS i set a VB script to delete network printers :- ------------------------------------------- On Error Resume Next Const NETWORK = 22 Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") strComputer = "." Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set colPrinters = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * From Win32_Printer") For Each objPrinter in colPrinters If objPrinter.Attributes And NETWORK Then strPrinter = objPrinter.Name objNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection strPrinter End If Next ------------------------------------------- Does this help you in any way ?
