Which file do I need to edit to change front page graphics?

Hi,

I keep going through those phases where I delve into php and then don't. I'm on a don't at the moment.

I am trying to see what I would need to edit to reduce the height of the changing graphics at the top of the front page.

I foolishly just edited the graphics but they ended up smaller but on a black background!

Can somebody point me in the right direction?
