abillybob Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Hello All We have a terminal server here that users login to for their day to day work but for some reason one users default printer keeps changing automatically even when she has set the default printer in control panel the day before it will change. No other users do this? I have tried as much as I can I even made a script and put that into AD to set the default printer at login but still the issue persists. Is there anything else we can do? The old support company has made a proper mess of Group Policy so that's not an option with group policies being set locally on the servers themselves. Thanks Alex
rich_tech Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 If they logging on with rdp is it pulling their local printers across to the session ? That causes issues for a server where I work unless people untick that option on their client as it reverts to a label printer here in event of mapping printer
abillybob Posted July 4, 2018 Author Posted July 4, 2018 I've checked this unfortunately. Under her Local Resources - Printers is unchecked so nothing wrong there and her computer actually has no printers installed anyway.
abillybob Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 Any other ideas? More and more users are now coming to me saying their default printer keeps changing? Now it's effecting the Site Manager and there's no patience there but I don't know what else I can physically do.
ass17 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 It sounds like you have three/four options: 1. They maybe a hot fix for such an issue but that depends on when windows server version you are using. If using server 2008 (not r2) then apply the hot fix below: (ignore the fact it refers to vista, works for both) http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=972600&kbln=en-us#step1 2. There is a group policy causing the problem. This is the most likely thing you need to look at. 3. If your printer names are quite long, rename them to 6-8 characters, worth a shot this one. 4. Using one user as a test, delete the following registry keys that reside in: HKCU\Printers\Connections and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Devices and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PrinterPorts Then log off and log in again and see what happens.
