Printing stopped working from terminal server?

Hi All

 

Having a strange issue for some reason after some Windows updates. We use a server as a print server that has all it's printers shared to another terminal server for people to print from. Now when people try to print the terminal server requests for them to install a new driver which even when they click on "Install" it dosen't do anything and asks them again to install another driver straight after.

 

I've tried the obvious like removing the printer and re-adding it etc but apart from that it still won't work!

 

Any ideas would be most appreciated!

How old/un-updated was it? Sounds like the age old point and print restrictions if you're sharing from another station do you have both in as options to allow the clients to download drivers?

Don't think that's the problem. Looked at Printer Properties - Additional Drivers and the x64 driver is ticked? So that should deploy any new drivers right? I have only just created a WSUS server as we never had one and updates where disabled so yes the updates where very old on it!!

So the status on the printers say "Needs Update" if I try updating manually from "Devices and printers" it asks me if I want to install the new driver, I click "Install" and it looks to be installing although as soon as it finishes I'm back to square one, still can't print and it asks if I want to update the driver again?

 

Anybody have any idea on what I can do to sort this out I've been racking my brain over it for ages? The source server is still printing just fine, my thought is that Windows update has updated the driver for these printers and for some odd reason now the other terminal server won't work as a result!?

Similar we get the same "Install Driver" prompt box open up but when they click to install it shows it copying files and then seems to finish successfully but when you try and print again it will prompt again so we've tried again but then it gives you an error message saying a "start DocPrinter call was not issued"

Does it work as an administrator?

 

There's lots online about the "start docPrinter" message.

 

Anything interesting in the event logs after the message happens?

Logged in as admin and it allowed me to install the new driver Thankyou must be a GP somewhere blocking it but as the GP's are set on the terminal server locally so it's difficult to tell what's on there!

Urgh, set locally..

 

If it's the only GP set you should find you can look through gpedit.msc locally to find the point and print stuff from the article.
