Secure Delete - Erasure configuration

I'm planning to deploy Eraser to allow staff to easily securely delete files. I extracted the msi using 7zip and have successfully deployed using Group Policy. When testing I noticed that it took ages to delete a relatively small folder. I then checked in the settings and found that the default method for files is Gutmann 35 passes. This is definitely overkill for us and inadvisable since it will mostly be used on Flash Drives or SSDs. I've worked out that the default is controlled by a registry setting and know what I want to change it to.

 

My query is: Can I deploy a registry setting in the same GPO as the software deploy or will it fail as the software might not exist when it attempts to write the registry setting?
