I have installed VLC Media Player (v3.0.1) and made VLC Media Player as the default player for all audio and video formats. When playing a Disney DVD (Toy Story) VLC Media Player takes a while before playing the DVD. You can hear the DVD being accessed and see the light on the DVD Writer, reading the DVD, but VLC Media Player will show a blank screen for about 1 minute until VLC Media Player decides to play the DVD.

 

I have tested this on a Windows 7 PC with VLC Media Player installed and it does the same as above.

 

If I play another DVD that is not a Disney DVD, the DVD loads straightaway on VLC Media Player on both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

 

If I also play the Disney DVD on Windows 7 through Windows Media Player 11, the DVD loads straightaway.

 

Can anyone else confirm they are having this issue? Can anyone offer any other free alternatives to VLC Media Player?

MPC-BE or PotPlayer are good alternatives (both free).

I tried MPC-HC and this works fine. The Toy Story DVD plays straightaway.

I was going to suggest MPC-HC, but it's not updated any more so thought MPC-BE (which is based on MPC-HC) might be better.

Just confirming your issues that I have also had issues with VLC not playing DVDs in Windows 10. I've transitioned to PotPlayer now which just works.
