Dell R320 High Failure Rate SATA

Has anyone else experienced problems with Dell PowerEdge R series servers and high failure rate with SATA hard disks?

 

I've had Dell Pro Support swap out 7 hard disks in the space of its 3-years of service... I've not experienced such a high failure rate with a server.

 

Dell are insisted we update the firmware for the disks to bring them all in line, suggesting this may be the cause. I've tried to point blame to a fault PERC controller or MB, but dell insist 'the logs' don't suggest either to be a fault.

Similar issues here even after updating firmware- dell suggested try turning up the aircon to 22c as we had it at 18c! Touch wood had no disk failure since then

The only failures I've seen from those en-masse are re-badged Seagoat drives (Dell labelled). Can't imagine why on earth higher temps would be better overall though!

That would explain in then, these things are just that, relabelled garbage.

A higher temperature will result in a lower humidity this I'm guessing reduces oxidisation on the hard drive PCB contacts that the data passes through.

I've fixed quite a few drives with just a pencil rubber.
