SYNACK Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) Some models from Old Maxtor, Samsung & Western Digital all have NCQ. I have a 3 year old 200GB Maxtor at home with NCQ. A fair few drive manufacturers may have picked up NCQ but from my experience they never pushed it as hard as Seagate did, if they had have it would be a lot better supported out of the box on all motherboards and cards. I also agree with the majority here that for a school the best option currently would be local drives mirrored overnight for backup. Edited April 7, 2008 by SYNACK
PEO Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 If you are syncing to a share from windows you may well need to stagger the connections to avoid the dreaded "delayed write failed" message if your storage box can't respond in quickly enough. yep create a script to WOL the machines then would you set a scheduled job to backup on the machines or the server. Im thinking server, so its easier to manage from a central location. does anyone agree or have a diffrent approach?
